Future of money
Evolution of Money
Money as an exchange of trust changes slowly, as the slow uptake of cryptocurrencies illustrates.
Money is evolving into the mobile phone age.
The concept with cowrie shells still exists in the Solomon Islands.
Metal money (mostly copper, silver, gold) is still important. The United States of America keeps 8,000 metric tons of relatively useless gold in special boxes. The development of regional fiat coins is very successful in many areas today.
Paper (and now plastic) banknotes have dominated for the last century. However Sweden has now stopped this method.
Regional electronic money with debit and credit cards have helped replace cash in Sweden along with the mobile phone. This trend will continue in other areas.
Cryptocurrencies can offer decentralized global money with Bitcoin currently dominating. However lack of central control has resulted in many Bitcoin forks (Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin Gold etc.) as programmers develop improved cryptocurrencies. Others such as Ethereum, Ripple, Tether, Litecoin and Dogecoin illustrate individual advantages. Uptake will be slow unless expedited.
The mobile phone as a bank is most developed in Africa.
The only possible way to expedite money change is humor?
